In 2011 we started in Zanskar with the Kamerakidz-project. One camera was passed around in class 8 so that nearly each child had the chance of taking photos for a whole afternoon and morning. This is, how they introduce themselves:
“In the heart of the Himalaya lies our beloved Secpad School. There are many classes and one of them is class VIII, the senior class. We are 17 students – 10 girls and 7 boys. We are aged between 13 and 16. Most of us are from nearby villages like Karsha, Youlang and Youlsum. 3 (2 girls and one boy) are from villages further away (Pidmo, Rantaksha and Hameling), so they stay in the hostel. Our classteacher is Mr. Younthan. He is from Tibet; a very kind and funny man, who is a good teacher, too. Our favorite subject is english. It is very important to know english as when we go to another country, most people speak english.
After finishing this class we all would like to go to another school to continue with our studies. Besides being busy with learning we like to play. Dektu, Dama Dama Peya and local Chess are our favourites before and after school and sometimes we also have time for it in the lunch break. Or we are just chatting. We get along very well together and live in brother- and sisterhood.”
Besides class 8, 6 hostelchildren from different classes were involved in the photoproject. They had a special photo-class for an hour in the afternoon for 2 weeks including 3 walks to outside places.
